On Saturday, October 1, the nigt of the Feast of the Protection of the Mother of God, after many months of building, delays, and setbacks, the first serrvices were held in our new building. Please see the story with pictures posted on our Diocesan Website:
We thank God for allowing this to come to fruition, and ask the prayers of all those who have followed this as we work to pay off the building working towards Phase II.
This proposed Building will be a Multipurose building. Our plan is to use this as a Chapel, hall, office, and education center until such time as we can build a proper and traditional looking Orthodox Temple. At that time, the partition wall will be removed, the hall area will be extended into the former Chapel (with the altar area becoming a stage area for Church School Programs), and a wing of 6 classrooms added to the one side of the structure.
In the meantime, this will meet our temporary needs until such time as we have a better financial base to build the "real" Church. But, as we say jokingly, and frequently - THIS IS NOT THE FINAL CHURCH :)
Please see the below layout design of this building in the various phases. Please keep our parish in your prayers during this exciting time! Glory to God for all things!
Recently our parish paid off the mortgage for our current temporary facility. Wishing to continually challenge ourselves towards the goal of a proper Church building, our Mission Council recently set the goal of $200K for Pascha/Easter, May 5, 2013. Our parish has already met this goal 3 months before our challenge date! And not onyl that, by God's Grace we recently purchased 14 acres of land in Mechanicsburg for the eventual building of a Church building.
In June of 2013, our parish unanimously voted to go forward and build a "Phase I" multipurpose building on the new property. The planned 7,400 square foot facility will house a temporary Chapel, hall area, office, and classrooms to meet the temporary needs of our growing community. When we outgrow this, and have a better financial base, the Church proper will be built next door (Phase II) with this first building being converted into a parish center to be completely a (big) hall, and classrooms. More details will be forthcoming in the next few months.
